Dr. Jeffrey Carter, DMD, MD
Clinical Director - Dr. Carter practices full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery. He hails from Connecticut and received his Engineering degree from Tufts University in Boston, MA. He holds a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from University of Connecticut and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Vanderbilt Medical School. He completed his surgical training at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN.
He began his career in academia in 1980 as the Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the Carle Clinic in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois and then relocated back to Nashville in 1986. He has served as Clinical Assistant Professor, Dept OMFS, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN since 1986. In 1992, he opened the first OMS Medicare certified ambulatory surgery center in the US called the Specialty Surgery Center, which he still serves as the Medical Director. Dr. Carter has served on the AAOMS Special Committee Appointee to the Anesthesia Quality Institute to Draft Standards of Patient Safety.
Over the past thirty years, he has mentored 16 surgical fellows and 20 surgical interns. He served on the prestigious Examining Committee of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for six years. In 2016, he was the recipient of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Annual award for the Committee Man of the Year for his life-long contributions to the surgical specialty society.
